Lilly vs Flying drifters...

Lilly Lilly senses the Drifters...she turns to see them FLYING! They have summoned dark powers to enable them to fly despite their lack of wings. Thick, black, powdery smoke oozes out from their burning bodies. Lilly uses a 'rocket launcher' to take them out.

Andew sent this low res map of the 'land masses' of the planet. Now keep in mind...this is in the early stages...and already I'm psyched! Mawete also has some good stuff I'll be posting soon.

We have another addition to our music team. We're up to four. I'd like two more for some extra diversity. Calling all drummers!

Ted's Stilts

There is a scene in the film where 'fruit pickers' are on stilts in the background while Gwen talks to an elder about a frightening new development in the GARUM's attack pattern. They will be seen through a haze of rain, but Ted has sent me some early, low res images of the base of the stilts. They are large at the base so that the harvesters don't sink into the mud.

This is sort of what I envision when the DRIFTERS fly in and try to manipulate the GARUM...Lilly blasts them with the "LAUNCHER"...I'll post Friday...hopefully...

so...Kate Bush is who? She's a very attractive British Gal who has an equally attractive voice...she has sung with Peter Gabriel and has had several American hits...then America embraced Madonna and our musical taste went to that dark burning place where music becomes rap or pop and smothers in eternal dark embers of stinky-ness...so there...buy her CD!!!

And a little side bar...my son got bag pipes for Christmas...if he can manage it, I want him to play a dirge for the scene where Sy is floated down the river...Zack is 8, but he is SO TALENTED Musically...Thursday he is doing a demo at school on Scottish culture and bagpipes! A dad could not be prouder!

I've killed a lot of fictional people. In my Entropy Gate series I killed some of my favorite characters to move the plot and tell the story. But tonight, I storyboarded the death of the "Old Caretaker" who is played by my good friend John Gruse. It was surreal offing him with the attack of the GARUM. I found myself, as I was drawing the image of him turning in slow motion with a small blade in hand to face his killer, hoping he'd move fast enough to evade the vicious attack...but John died on paper and he spat blood. He'll be happy...I'm sort of wigged out! I'll post the boards tomorrow.

What a night!

I saw the digital work of the "tree harvesters"...oh wait, I haven't posted those scenes yet...

I also saw that my logo guy was creating sparks for the logo...

I added two new scenes to the film...

Oh, and my son had to go to the emergency room because he chipped a tooth at a basketball game when a cousin fell on his head...long story...quite expensive...

YET, the glass is still half full and brimming with great tasting liquids.

The new script is almost done...it is far better than the original!

I've had a rare opportunity today...almost 3 hours of freedom to edit my second book in the ENTROPY GATE series. I've been listening to two CD's as inspiration...1) KASHMIR symphonic Led Zeppelin...if you don't have it...get it! And the "Last of the Mohicans" sound track...I've got so many ideas for our soundtrack it almost hurts...

John...a good friend...he must die...

John is a great artist and a good friend, but he is also the old caretaker and in scene one he passes on the responsibility of the caretaker to Gwen...he thinks that he will live out his retirement in peace, but noooooooooooooo...I have plans for him...he dies a rather gruesome death...gurgling, sputtering, coughing, retching...finally dying...

NEW END SEQUENCE

I joke that we are international now because Andrew from the UK is interested in helping out on our film...check him out! He totally ROCKS!!! You won't be let down. Go through his archives. Fun stuff, that. Anyway, here is a shot he is thinking about doing...

This is where Lilly transforms into a "being of light" and shoots past the camera...the camera then pulls out of the forest, past the clouds and into the darkness of space where the flashing lightning lights up the planet...(possibly) a comet (perhaps Lilly) passes by...fade to black, roll credits, cue theme...

Plot twist!

Last night an idea came to me...Lilly is obviously the 'angel on the shoulder' sort of gal in the story...sure, the GARUM is the villan and it's being tortured by the DRIFTER demons...but what about the 'devil on my other shoulder' sort of person. What if there were someone who tries to misdirect Gwen away from the prophecied "UNIFICATION"? Tara and Tess, two twins from church, did a skit where one played the angel, one played the demon, and they were the conscience for some kid...it sort of clicked then that the story could use that metaphore. The bad-shoulder-dwelling individual would be human. She would be the only person whoever escaped the clutches of the GARUM...and she would BE TOTALLY INSANE!!! Did a sketch...

I'm beat...

I had my opening at the GRIND coffee house...I can't believe I actually filled the place with art and people...after the weeks I've had. What was really crazy was that this afternoon I realized there was a blank spot on the wall of the coffee shop and I actually cranked out a drawing in "Rattle and Hum" the DVD time (I started the drawing at the beginning of the DVD and finished it during the credits). It's one of my faves...I'll take photo's this week and post. I've had no sleep. On the bright side, Danielle emailed and we're shooting her this weekend...I mean, we're shooting pictures of her in cotume this weekend...I'm currently listening to the "ANGEL" soundtrack...Joss Weadon ROCKS!

Got some more stuff done for the film. I'm hoping to get some pictures of Danielle in her costume this weekend...gee, if only she would call me. (ha, ha)

NEWS: GALACTICA DVD movie planned

GEEK MONTHLY reports that a direct-to-DVD movie is in the work based on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA:

Despite declining ratings for BATTLESTAR GALACTICA on SciFi Channel, nearly universal critical acclaim along with robust DVD sales have led Universal Home Video to consider greenlighting a BATTLESTAR GALACTICA direct-to-video telefilm, which will presumably air on The SciFi Channel, after debuting on home video, sources tell GEEK. If it goes forward, the two hour telefilm will shoot in March during the series hiatus and prior to the commencement of production on the series fourth season in June. While there is no story for the telefilm at present, plans are afoot to come up with a screenplay that doesn’t step on existing continuity for the series, but utilizes most of its existing sets. There is also speculation the telefilm will somehow tie into the mythology for the GALACTICA spin-off series, CAPRICA, which has not been officially greenlit by SciFi Channel.

I'll be posting images soon...I was aging Gwen's new costume last night with bricks...then i soaked it in a mixture of paint thinner (will blue, brown and red oil paint), wood stain and black latex paint. It's drying outside. I'm going to let tomorrow's rain rinse it and then I'll dry it again. That's when I'll take the pictures.

ART SHOW ON THE HORIZON

Got a show coming up soon...Jan. 3, from 7-9 at the GRIND COFFEE house. I prefer showing at coffee houses over Galleries because a) they are far less stuffy, b) more people show up to them (coffee houses that is) and c) a lot easier to get into...Chuck out at the GRIND originally had me down for a July, but his Jan. guy is a potter and wasn't going to have any work on the walls...so...long story lengthened, I've got some framing to do...oh yeah, and a few new peices to work on. Kevin gave me some frames he was going to toss and they're huge! YAY for big art.

Jess Murry from ITT is working on the logo...I'm looking for someone to animate the opening sequence...check out the boards.

As stated earlier, I have decided to restoryboard the whole film. I realized that I was being creatively hypocritical. I was creating and designing the look of the film based on what I thought we could produce. An extremely limiting thing to do from an artistic standpoint. After looking at Mawete's CG work and several other's, along with everything I've stated so far about why I should reboard, well, I'm going nuts (in a good way). Check out the first thirty...

A while back I quoted G'Kar from B5 as saying "and so it begins..." well my son Zack slammed through the series in about a month and I walked in on the episode where KOSH said the line, not (RIP) G'Kar...so now I quote KOSH..."And so it begins..." (again). I'm redoing all...and I mean ALL of the story boards! I'm at 18 this evening and they look so much better than before...I'll post some (hopefully) on Wed.

Things are really back on track...

1) the new script os far superior to the original.

2) Mawete, a fantastic artist and CG guy from IPFW, is on the team. Hopefully I'll post some of his work soon.

3) Two more actors have joined the team as well.

4) My new ITT video productions class is begging for the opportunity to work on the film.

5) We may have a lead on a camera since the last lead turned out to be stale milk!

sort of cranky tonight...

Borat, The Office, Punk'd...there is so little entertainment out there anymore. Does anyone reme,ber what it was like to turn on the TV and have shows entertain you without that awkward silence. Yeah, I know, the critics love BORAT because he essentially said what Michael Richards said...'cept he was 'funny'...though if his SNL performance was anything close to his stupid movie, then he deserved the beating he got after the show...I still like Hugh Laurie because he is great as Dr. House, but I wish that he had let Borat get his just desert.

It seems that we can no longer be entertained unless we are watching someone get humiliated. I remember walking out of the living room when my wife and I watched "Meet the Parents". How is an hour and a half long movie about making someone feel absolutely worthless and humiliating them repeatedly concidered humorous entertainment.

Entertainment and writing in Hollywood has been at a steady decline for years, but "reality TV" which is anything but reality and "humiliation" comedy is causing so much damage to people...I wonder if anyone can laugh any more unless someone is a) humiliated b) Punk'd(what ever that means...MTV idiots on drugs pulling childish pranks on people most likely) or c) being SHOCKING!

Let's face it...sit coms are all about a) stupid dads b) over sexed and under satisfied wives c) smart alec kids who talk back to dumb dad and then have sex with under satisfied teenagers d) sarcastic idiots who find it funny trashing Christian values...

Stop the world...I'm done for now...

NEWS: POLTERGEIST remake coming

The proposed sequel film Poltergeist: Kayeri has been shelved in favor of a shot-for-shot remake of the original 1982 film. "I've just received official confirmation that the original idea for Kayeri will not be used for the remake," the source said. "Instead, the new film will be a straight-up remake of the first film. Pretty much frame-for-frame. Just think Hills Have Eyes."

According to the site, screenwriter Clint Morris, who wrote the script for Poltergeist: Kayeri, will not be involved in the new project. The source also confirmed that original cast members Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams and Zelda Rubinstein will not appear in the remake.

The original Poltergeist, produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper, centered on a family who moves into a new housing development and discovers that their home is built over an ancient burial ground inhabited by angry spirits. The film spawned two theatrical sequels and a television series, which ran from 1996 to 1999.

TEL AVIV — A university here has developed and patented nano-battery technology suitable for military applications.

Professor Menachem Nathan, head of the nano-battery project at Tel Aviv University, said the new battery, with the thickness of a strand of hair, was safer and could recharge faster.

Tel Aviv University has sponsored an effort to develop and patent nano-battery technology. A team of university scientists developed the technology for fast charge/discharge batteries that eliminates fire hazards of lithium-based batteries and could mark an alternative source of power for mobile devices.

"The battery would be especially sought for military applications in equipment used under extreme heat conditions," an industry source said.

Nathan said the safety advantage over lithium was not the focus of the research.

"The development of our technology wasn't actually geared to solve the flammability issue," Nathan said. "It was just a side effect."

Organizers said the university would seek an Asian partner for production and marketing. They cited such companies as Sony or Toshiba.

Danielle as a psychopathic cook

What a night…I got to ITT at 4:00 pm and we finished at 10:30…We shot half of the sword fight video (choreographed to the music from Final Fantasy 7) complete with me standing on the bumper of my father-in-law’s truck while balancing the camera on the back cab to simulate a rotating dolly shot that totally rocked…then we destroyed the teacher’s lounge for a TOOL video that had two chefs creating cookies without eggs…there will be images posted next week of both projects…it was a long day…

btw...danielle was the lead singer of the song...i still don't quite get TOOL because I'm almost 40.

By the way...the images of the nice young 'dead chick' are actually those of the star of our film, Danielle. She will be playing Gwen...and it's nice to see that she isn't afraid of a little blood because she takes a beating in the last act of the film.

ALIEN and Ridley Scott

Just watched/listened to the comentary track of ALIEN...I also looked at all of the sketches and preproduction paintings and story boards for the movie...I am so pumped...I think I am going to rewrite the script from scratch and redraw all 500+ story boards...

With his prequels behind him, George Lucas has shifted his attention to two daring projects that could bring tie-fighters, tauntauns and Tatooine to a new generation of imaginers. First among them is a largely 3-D animated show very different from the recent, slick Genndy Tartakovsky "Clone Wars" cartoons but set throughout the same epic battles. "We've got a number of episodes finished now," he promised. "It looks really good. It's a lot of fun.

"It's that same time period," Lucas added of the show, which is being shopped to various channels. "But it's quite a bit more sophisticated, and it's not like anything you've ever seen on television before. ... [Tartakovsky] used his distinctive 2-D style to do [Clone Wars], but it was two minutes at a time, so it was a test-subject kind of idea. It worked and everything, but then we knew we were eventually going to do a 3-D animated series."

In 2007, Lucas will begin work on a live-action "Star Wars" show set during the 18-year gap between Episodes III and IV. "We haven't started yet; I start that next year," the filmmaker said, adding that he's determined to write an entire first season before shooting begins on the show that will star "background" characters from that time period.

"None of the Skywalker story, none of that stuff is in there," he explained, shooting down any depiction of a young Han Solo acquiring the Millennium Falcon or running with Lando Calrissian. "It's completely different. The animated series has got all the characters in it. The one that comes after, the live-action one, is with people who were in 'Star Wars,' but they're not the main characters."

Lucas said the plot will be steered by characters such as Tie-Fighter or Rebel pilots, most only briefly glimpsed in the six "Star Wars" films.
